Good News, Bad News, and More News
I have good news, bad news and more news to share with you.
First, the bad news.
While going door to door on April 27, I tumbled down some concrete steps and broke a bone in my pelvis, requiring surgery and a week-plus hospital stay. I should be up on crutches and back in business by the end of this week.
The good news is, this injury makes me more determined than ever to win the 22nd Assembly seat in order to achieve the number one goal of many voters in our area: affordable and accessible healthcare for Wisconsin's families.
I know how fortunate I am to have healthcare coverage. For many families, an injury like this would not only be painful, but a financial burden as well. I will work to ensure that every family in Wisconsin is able to access affordable healthcare. Accidents are unpredictable, but healthcare shouldn't be.
In the more news category...if you haven't already made your reservation to the "100 People for Pasch" fundraising event, there's still time! Remember that special guest DA John Chisholm will be on hand. The event is this Tuesday, May 6th from 5:00-7:30pm at the DeLind Gallery in downtown Milwaukee (see more details under "Upcoming Events" below). I hope to be there, but if that's not possible, I have taped a video message for the event.
There's another terrific event coming up on Sunday, May 18 from 1:00-4:00pm: two of my fellow nurses are hosting a meet 'n greet at the home of Vivien De Back in Hales Corners. Special guest Senator Judy Robson will be there, and all are welcome to attend-again, please see details below!
As always...and especially now...thank you for your support!
Sandy Pasch
Candidate for 22nd Assembly
2,000 Doors-the Plan From Here
Sandy had already been to over 2000 homes in the district when she was injured.
While she's recovering, she'll have volunteers stay in contact with voters and will start calling voters herself when she's out of the hospital. If you can spare a few hours over the next several weeks to "do doors" or drop off literature, please contact Phyllis Blackburn at phyllis@sandypasch.com. Thank you so much!
Sandy and the Secure Detention Facility
Milwaukee's Secure Detention Facility is a temporary home for people suspected of parole or probation violations. An estimated 30% of the men and 70% of the women housed at the facility are incarcerated for behaviors related to severe mental illness rather than criminal actions. Warden Jon Husz asked Sandy to be part of a liaison team between the facility and the community to help ensure these people get the treatment they need to become productive members of the community.

Let me start this newsletter by cordially inviting you to the "100 People for Pasch" fundraising event, happening May 6th from 5-7:30pm at the DeLind Gallery. Special guest Milwaukee County DA John Chisholm will be joining us, my friend Marguerite Alpers is preparing the hors d' oeuvres, and there will be wine, conversation and fine art to enjoy! You'll see from the rest of this newsletter that my campaign is going strong, and that I'm particularly enjoying "doing doors"-which is a good thing, because I plan to spend a lot of time on that between now and the primary!
Please contact me at any time if you have questions about the campaign or the issues. I look forward to speaking with you.
Thank you for your support!
Sandy Pasch
22nd Assembly 2008
Sandy continues to visit hundreds of homes each week to meet voters and learn what's on their minds.
"I absolutely love meeting the people I hope to represent," she says. "Their stories are amazing and touching...it will be an honor to fight for them in Madison."
A nurse, educator and community advocate, Sandy is running on a platform of affordable, accessible healthcare; quality education; fiscal responsibility; and environmental stewardship. "What I hear from people in the district completely reinforces my reasons for running," she says. "We all essentially want the same things, and with my skills and experience, I'm in the ideal position to build the bridges required to achieve those things."
Robert Wrenn Says...
Robert Wrenn, Executive Director of Transitional Living Services, is a strong supporter of Sandy's. Here's what he has to say about her:
"Sandy is the type of person we want in politics. She's smart, diplomatic, resourceful and principled, with a passion to serve the community and the perseverance to get the job done."

Sandy to Serve on Justice Council
How would YOU lower crime in Milwaukee County? One idea is to improve access to services like addiction treatment and mental health care to fight the factors that contribute to crime. That's exactly what Milwaukee's Community Justice Council hopes to do, and Sandy will help. DA John Chisholm asked Sandy to join the Justice Council's Programs and Interventions Committee, and Chief Justice Kitty Brennan asked her to serve on the Public Health Committee. Sandy will serve alongside such notables as Police Chief Ed Flynn, Sheriff David Clarke Jr. and Mayor Tom Barrett.

22nd Assembly 2008
1,200 Doors!
The most effective way for any candidate to earn votes is to talk with people face to face. Sandy's goal is to knock on thousands of doors between now and the primary. Despite our up and down weather, Sandy has already been to over 1,200 doors! After the election is over she is going to need a new pair of shoes!
Sandy's Supporters!
Sandy has spent the last 22 years in the North Shore area and has gained the support of a broad coalition of elected officials, community leaders and long-time residents. For a list of her supporters click HERE. If you would like to be added to the list, just respond to this email and let us know.
What Voters Are Saying
Talking with voters in the 22nd district has confirmed what most of us know already-healthcare reform is the number one concern of voters in our area.
One Shorewood man, a Vietnam vet, told Sandy he feels lucky to be a veteran, because if he wasn't, he doesn't know how he'd pay for the cancer treatments he's currently undergoing.
A female resident told Sandy her 58 year old sister just moved in with her and is just hoping she doesn't get sick before she's eligible for Medicare, because she has no insurance.
We can all see that there is something terribly wrong with these scenarios!
As a nurse and community advocate, Sandy profoundly understands the complexities related to healthcare, for both the insured and uninsured. She will apply this experience in the assembly to make healthcare reform a reality in Wisconsin.
